Augrabies Falls National Park Rest Camp

Augrabies Falls

Augrabies Falls

The rest camp at Augrabies Falls National Park is just 3 kms from the main gate.

We drove to the Reception building for a quick and easy check-in. This building also houses the Quiver Tree Restaurant and the Curio & Retail Shop. There are also numerous information boards showing photographs of the Falls in flood, and interesting points about the Park.

We booked into Chalet 25 – very conveniently located close to the main building.

Our chalet was open-plan, self-contained and spotlessly clean.

The kitchen had a microwave, two electric burners, refrigerator, kettle, toaster, and was very well stocked with pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. Everything was immaculate.

There were 2 single beds, a wardrobe (safe in wardrobe), small desk and sofa. The bathroom was small but well designed. Bedlinen, towels and soap were included.

There was an air-conditioning system which was much appreciated in hot weather.

The outdoor area had a plastic table and chairs and a BBQ.

From our chalet, it was a short walk to the Falls and the boardwalk along the ravine. It’s a beautiful walk with wonderful views – especially at sunset.

It was an even shorter walk to the excellent Quiver Tree Restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious dinner of ribs, steak and sticky date pudding. Our waitress was very charming. The restaurant is licensed and has a very comfortable bar area.

Breakfast is also served in the restaurant and we sat on the outside deck to enjoy the fresh air.

It is recommended to book ahead, as the rest camp was fully booked on the evening of our visit (Tuesday 8/9/2015).

There are a few different configurations in the chalets – see website for details – www.sanparks.org/parks/augrabies/tourism/accommodation.php

We can highly recommend a stay at the Augrabies Falls National Park (sanparks.org/parks/augrabies) and if possible make time to take a drive in the Park – especially to Ararat and Oranjekam for wonderful views. Or take a guided tour – there are night and daytime game drives available.
