Newport Bay Club and HotelThe Newport Bay Club & Hotel has an excellent location at the corner of Thames Street and America’s Cup Boulevard – just a few minutes walk to the restaurants and shops of the Newport Harbour area (Bowens Wharf and Bannisters Wharf). It is also a short walk to the shopping area of Brick Market Place, and a 10-minute walk to the Tourist Office – where most tours depart from (the bus station is also part of the Tourist Office building).

The hotel is in an historic building – The Perry Mill – a cotton mill built in 1835 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We have Room 307 on the 3rd floor (lift access) – a one-bedroom suite with queen bedroom, bathroom and a spacious living room plus kitchenette. The suite has big windows with shutters and beautiful timber beams across the ceiling.

Our room overlooked the car park, the wharf area and Thames Street. We were visiting in the off-season (end of October) and it was very quiet.

Living Room

The living room has a dining table for four, a three-seater sofa (sofa bed if required), two armchairs, side tables, television and a kitchenette.

Kitchenette

The kitchenette is very well equipped with:

  • Microwave
  • Dishwasher
  • Toaster
  • Coffee machine
  • Ice bucket
  • Crockery, glassware, cutlery
  • Washing up liquid and one tablet for dishwasher supplied
  • Clock on wall

Bedroom

The bedroom has a Queen bed, wardrobe with hangers, small safe and luggage rack. There is also a desk, chair and mirror. It was a little dim in the bedroom as there were no overhead lamps – just three lamps.

Bathroom

The bathroom is a good size with a large shower and basin plus good quality toiletries, hairdryer and tissues.

Amenities

  • Room has iron, ironing board, spare blanket and 2 spare pillows.
  • Wifi was free.
  • A coin operated washing machine and dryer on the 4th floor for guests.
  • An ice machine in the hall.
  • A fitness room
  • Observation decks

Parking

We were able to park in front of the hotel – there are half a dozen spots allocated to the hotel. Alternatively there is parking at the back of the hotel and parking for one car is free for guests.

Restaurants Nearby

There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. We had excellent meals at the following two restaurants and can highly recommend them:

  • Black Pearl – Bannister’s Wharf (www.blackpearlnewport.com)
  • Midtown Oyster Bar – opposite the hotel (http://midtownoyster.com)
